FPS does not scale with settings on high-end system (~120 FPS cap behavior)
Hi,
I wanted to report a performance/scaling issue I’m experiencing in Marathon on a high-end laptop.
System specs:
-
GPU: RTX 5090 Laptop (175W TGP)
-
CPU: Intel Ultra 9 255HX
-
Display: 2560x1600 @ 300Hz
Observed behavior:
-
~120–125 FPS on max settings
-
~125 FPS on lowest settings + DLSS Ultra Performance
-
GPU usage ~75–85%
-
CPU usage moderate (no obvious full utilization across cores)
Changing resolution and graphics settings has almost no impact on FPS, which suggests performance is not GPU-bound.
Additional testing:
-
Laptop is running in Turbo/performance mode (no power limitations)
-
V-Sync is off
-
No FPS cap enabled
-
Other games on this system scale correctly and achieve significantly higher FPS
This appears to be a CPU/engine limitation where performance does not scale beyond ~120 FPS regardless of settings.
I’m sharing this in case it helps with optimization and scaling on high-end hardware.
Thanks for your time.
