Bungie Answered
I get a squirrel error when I log into the game. How do I fix this?
I was just playing a game with friends and I got kicked out to the main menu. When I tried to re-enter, I got this error. I bought the deluxe edition and have played almost 50 hours of the game.
It's been over 14 hours since the error occurred, and I've done everything I could. Steam support provides links to the game's support page.

Hello there,
Thank you for reaching out.
SQUIRREL is a sign-in error – the game client failed to talk to the Destiny servers during login, so you get kicked before reaching character select.
Try these steps
Check for an outage first
Look at @BungieHelp and the Destiny Server/Status page to see if there’s a known login issue. If there is, you’ll need to wait for it to be resolved.
Full restart of game and platform
Close Destiny completely.
Reboot your console/PC.
Launch Destiny again and try logging in.
Power-cycle your network
Unplug your modem/router for 30–60 seconds, plug back in, wait for it to fully come online, then retry logging in.
On PC: check files and security software
Verify / repair the Destiny 2 install in Steam/Epic/MS Store.
Make sure your firewall/antivirus isn’t blocking Destiny or BattleEye (temporarily whitelist them and test).

There's an error in the Marathon game. I've checked the integrity of the files and reinstalled the game, but that doesn't help.
