Game crash at the start of a round and opening the map
- Bungie Account Name - akari#1852
- Platform - Steam/PC
- Description of Issue - In some cases, the game can crash consistently in 2 ways:
- 1) Game will fully crash once matchmaking has complete (squad fill) and tries to load in the round. Can hear the music change from "searching" with the video visuals to the "strings" that is supposed to show your team-mates missions. I hear the audio play for a few seconds, but the screen remains black long enough -> app greys out (default windows behavior of "not responding app" -> Game will crash.
- 2) Game will fully crash randomly when opening the map mid-game (M). Game will just "freeze" and then crash completely, requiring to start. This is a major issue since it leaves the player vulnerable and takes almost 2 minutes to load back in, which can be fatal to the round. Adding a way to skip the video intro will help reduce that down time, but fixing the core issue is very important.
- Both issues do not appear to generate any Event Viewer log that indicates to Windows of an issue such as a driver failure. Would like to use ProcessMonitor to see if there's a file writing error, but do not want to risk of a potential ban if that's not allowed
- Rough Date and Time of issue - For 1) It happens at least once or twice a day within a 3-5 hour non-stop play session. For 2) It happens at least 3-4 times a day within a 3-8 hour non-stop play session
- Repro steps - Unknown at ths time other than playing the game normally. 1) Solo filling into Squads with any runner seems to cause it, I usually pick Triage. Game can crash though with a pre-filled team or Duo fill. I had experienced this issue well into playing more than a few rounds, so it is not "immediate". 2) Can occur at any time within the match, but have seen it as early on as within 1-2 mins of the mach. But have seen random teammates run into issue 5-10+ mins in.
- Update 3/15 - Crrash occured on round load in (squad fill, no party). 11:50:50pm PST. Selected Dire Marsh, priority sekiguchi contract (parasitism 3/5), finished an extract from Perimeter prior from free kit -> kit other players. Loaded in with custom kit. Played about 5-6 rounds prior, starting from 9:45pm to 11:50pm
- PC Specs: AMD 9800X3D, 96GB RAM, 2TB SSD (100+GB free in each drive), RTX 5080 (595.79 [March 2026], updated from Dec 2025 release, both had issues), Windows 10 22H2 (19045.6575), Magnetic switches keyboard
The number of instances has this occured is now more than 2 hands worth. While it seems the maps crashing issue is being investigated, I can't find any reports about a game crash upon loading into the round. I will update the post when I have an accurate time/date of the crash, since they all occured without me monitoring the exact match/time period.

Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out. We're sorry to hear you're dealing with this frustrating situation!
We can confirm the team has received reports of crashes of this nature and is looking into the situation. That said, you could try the following potential solutions in the meantime, which some players have reported success with:
Hello Bungie Support, thanks for responding!
Updating the NVIDIA GPU drivers didn't resolve the issue, so I don't think it is driven by GPU drivers at this time. A clean install was attempted via NVIDIA updater (not DDU route however). Dec 2025 and Mar 2026 drivers. Additional drivers haven't been updated such as MB BIOS and no additional AMD chipset drivers were installed.
Windows found no corruption with the OS itself, so that's not fully likely the issue either.
BattlEye and Marathon do not interfere or pop up any interference with antivirus software (Bitdefender), so that's a partially ruled out option. If there's any hidden logger settings or allowed programs such that can help debug the crash, I would be interested in helping out.
