opening steam overlay crashes my game

well playing I'll open steam overlay and it will freeze my screen then crash. this often happens during graphic intense moments like when its raining. this happened on march 9th between 2:30 and 3:00

    as for reproducing the steps just open the steam overlay during events like rain as thats often when I crashed
