Game sets my bluetooth headphones into handsfree mode despite them not having a microphone

My bluetooth headphones don't have a microphone. Despite this, when I open the game, it crushes the sound quality of my entire pc by putting my headphones into handsfree mode. I checked the audio output settings on my pc, steam, and the game, and they all have the output device set to the correct usb microphone. I turned handsfree telephony off for my headphones in system settings and now the game switches rapidly between outputting sound and trying to get input from the microphone that doesn't exist
