Mouse stuck in the menu

I launch the game and the mouse starts to jerk around. After a few seconds, the game freezes and the hourglass appears, as if the application is no longer responding. I close and restart it, open the game, and it starts up. I set the screen to window mode and it works fine, but when I set it to full screen, the mouse starts jerking again, making it impossible to play. When I finally start the tutorial, I can't pick up objects because the mouse is stuck in the tab menu. If I press ESC, it's stuck, and I can only play without changing any graphics settings, buttons, or anything else because I can't.
