Compressed bluetooth audio on PC

when getting past the 'click to continue' screen as the game's main menu opens up, all my bluetooth audio across all of my PC programs compresses and muffles pretty badly. I've edited mic and headphone settings but they don't seem to make any changes.

I can't test this because I don't have a physical headphone set, but I'm wondering if this is a bluetooth & PC only issue.

When I close the game, my audio returns to normal.

I've already reset my PC, and made game changes and then closed & reopened it.
