Error Code: MARMOT

This error occurs when the Marathon game files have been corrupted and need to be repaired or verified. For steps to repair the game files on each supported platform, please see below.

Steam

1. Close Marathon 
2. Right-click on Marathon in Steam's Library
3. Select "Properties" then "Local Files"
4. Select "Verify Integrity of Game Files"
5. Restart Marathon

If issues persist, players are advised to fully uninstall and reinstall Destiny 2.

Advanced Steps

If the above steps don't resolve the issue, players may want to:

1. Right-click on Marathon in Steam's Library
2. Select "Properties" then "Local Files"
3. Select "Browse" and delete all of the files except for the "packages" folder
4. Go back to "Local Files" for Marathon
5. Select "Verify Integrity of Game Files" and wait for the files to finish downloading
6. Restart Marathon for the game to verify the game content

If the issue continues, players may want to run "chkdsk" on their computer to correct any hard drive issues.

Consoles

1. Go to the console's home screen and quit out of the Marathon app
2. Clear the console cache
3. Restart the console
4. Restart Marathon

If issues persist, players are advised to fully uninstall and reinstall Destiny 2.

Advanced Steps

PlayStation 5

1. Launch the console into Safe Mode by turning by holding down the power button to turn it off
2. Once the console is off, press and hold down the power button for seven seconds until it beeps two times, then release the button
3. Connect the controller with a USB cable to the console
4. Once in Safe Mode, choose "Rebuild Database." This will not delete any files. This will scan your entire hard drive and fix many issues (such as corruption), leading to faster performance and less of a chance for a game to crash.

Xbox Series X|S

1. Go to the console's home screen and quit out of the Marathon app
2. Press the Xbox button on the controller and open Settings
3. Under "Devices & connections" select "Blue-ray"
4. Select "Persistent Storage"
5. Select "Clear persistent storage"

All Consoles

If the issue continues, it's possible that the hard drive is corrupted and may require a factory reset. Please be aware that this option can result in the complete removal of everything on the hard drive (if the "reset and keep games" option isn't selected) and should be a last resort option.
