Airpod Pro 3's "Crunchy" Audio (Bluetooth)

Hello,

I have read some of the other forums about the topic and thought I would toss some things I have learned into the conversation. So the airpods specifically begin sounding crunchy when either of the "voice chat" options are referring information to them (input OR output). You could have ONLY voice chat info being SENT to the airpods- not using the mic, and this is still the case. Even when disabling the headphones ability to be used as a mic on the computer in Windows settings- this is still the case when they are selected for voice chat output. Somehow- the voice chat output is picking up that it's possible for them to be a mic and is defaulting them to the 1 Channel-radio quality.

    Hi there,

    Thank you for reaching out.

When a voice chat app uses the AirPods for chat audio, Windows can switch them into a lower-quality hands-free audio mode, which can make the sound come across as crunchy or radio-like.

A few things you can try:

    • Set the AirPods as your audio output only, and use a different microphone for voice chat if possible.
    • Make sure Windows is using the Stereo/Headphones version of the AirPods, not the Hands-Free/Headset option.
    • If needed, disable Hands-Free Telephony for the AirPods in Windows so they stay in higher-quality stereo mode.
  • I should add- these are Airpod Pro 3's
