Stuck in an unlinking loop with a deleted Twitch account

Bungie Account Name - oxyJinn#9889
Platform - Steam
Description of Issue - Cannot unlink deleted/nonexistant Twitch account from Bungie account
Rough Date and Time of issue - The account was deleted roughly a year ago or so
Repro steps - Account settings, connections, unlink twitch account, get "ErrorCannotLoadLinkedCredential"
LINKS:

  • TL;DR: Linked my Bungie profile to a Twitch account that is now permanently deleted. I can't unlink it because the system asks me to sign into the dead account first. Twitch Support hit a dead end and sent me here. Hoping a Bungie engineer can manually sever the tie so I can get my earned drops!

Hello, this is an extremely unlucky situation I found myself in apparently:

I’m trying to link my active Twitch account so I can finally claim the Marathon drops I spent hours watching streams for (both Server Slam and Launch Day, now Cryo Archive release too 😞). However, my Bungie account is still linked to an old Twitch account that I had permanently deleted a while ago:

Authentication Error
Unlinking has failed because you signed into a different external account than the one you have linked. We cannot unlink your external account unless you sign into the correct account.

I had already spoken with Twitch Support, we tried everything: incognito browsers, no extensions, force-recaching. The representative even tried "performing some changes regarding your accounts connections" on their backend. It still failed with the same error. Twitch Support told me the account is fully deleted, cannot be restored to authorize the login, and that we've hit a dead end. They told me to come here.

In a past post, I was referred to the March 25th, 2025 unlinking update notice, which explicitly states that Twitch is an exception to the unlinking restrictions. But that self-serve system completely breaks down if the account is deleted. We, as users, cannot sign into it to authorize the unlink.

As a long-time player, it feels pretty disrespectful to be stuck in this bureaucratic ping-pong between two support teams over cosmetic loot I already put the time in to earn. I have to imagine this situation is more common than Bungie realizes, and the current setup will only lead to more players getting permanently locked out of their drops.

Please let's cooperate on this. I don't care for the old account, I don't even care for the new one. I just want to *be able* to receive the cosmetics I had already put my time aside for.

Is it possible for an engineer to force-unlink this on your end? Just send a cosmic ray into the data server holding those bits and zero em or something. You're Bungie, creative sci-fi is your thing.

    Hi there,

Due to mandatory security policy, Bungie is not able to remove any connected platform accounts from Bungie.net profiles under any circumstances.

If your Twitch account has been deleted or lost, we are unable to assist you, and you will need to contact Twitch Support for assistance.

  • ... bump.

  • I'd already spoken with Twitch and they could not help further than the post already stated! Does that mean I'm out of luck then?

  • love typing up actual whole paragraphs and trying to appeal to a human sentiment and get a practically canned response from both ends

if this gets picked up by an actual person at a later date i'd appreciate it

  • I'm in the same boat. Haven't received twitch drops so I'm trying to unlink my twitch from Bungie.net and am stuck with the same BS.

  • Same boat.. bungie expects us to keep a 10 year old twitch page when destiny 2 came out. Its sort of rediculous to provide such a horrible experience for the player. It's also the players responsibility to keep and maintain this connection. It sends a message of we don't want to do work. I've been contemplating removing bungie as a go to for games. I bought Marathon and only one in my friend group who actually likes it. Being a customer for bungie is very rigid. Outdated practices are upheld and no changes made. Welcome to 2026 Bungie.

  • Chiming in. Same issue. I had changed my account name with another that I no longer have access too. I just can't believe I spent good money on a game with zero real customer support.
