I can hear other players, but they cannot hear me.

Issue: One-Way Voice Chat (PS5).

Problem: I can hear other players, but they cannot hear me in Crew Chat or Proximity Chat. This is the only game where I am experiencing this issue.

Hardware Tested:

  • DualSense Internal Microphone.
  • 3.5mm Headset (plugged into DualSense).
  • PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset.

In-Game Settings (Marathon):

  • Voice Chat: On.
  • Proximity Voice Chat: On.
  • Crew Slot Mic Status: Not muted (Icon is active; shows "X Mute Microphone" option).
  • Text Chat: Unmuted.
  • Proximity Voice Broadcast: Bound to Right D-pad, Hold. (The mic icon next to my Bungie ID switches to active while holding Right D-pad during a run.)

PS5 System Settings:

  • Mic Input: Correctly matches the device in use: Wireless Controller / Headset (Controller) / USB Headset (Wireless Headset).
  • Mute Game Voice Chat: Toggled OFF.
  • Microphone Level: Registered as "Good" (Green zone).
  • Privacy Settings: "Who can interact with you..." set to Anyone.

Troubleshooting Steps Taken:

  • Restored Licenses.
  • Updated System Software.
  • Cleared Cache & Rebuilt Database.

  • Following. Having exactly the same issue having tried all the same steps.
I can speak on Discord through the PS5 while playing Marathon through.

  • I am also having this issue on a Windows PC. Cannot hear friends in a party, random party members, or prox chat.

I can hear all other audio, and they can hear me. This has not been working for me since launch (25h playtime). Audio including voice works in all other games (Battlefield, CS2, etc).

I have gone through mmsys.cpl, tried different devices, turned settings on and off and other workarounds, and have had no luck.

  • Just to add to this. I don't have a link or recording but I believe I identified the trigger, which is when you are talking in the menu lobby chat as it transitions to match lobby if your mic is active, it cause this to happen. I've replicated this at least 5-6 times. What it looks like to me is the in game mic is on constantly for the person. I've also had matches where my 1 friend who was in menu lobby with me can't hear me but the random I'm playing with can hear both of us speaking to them but we can't hear each other.

If you need headset spec it's a Steel Series Artic 5, and i tried this with my other headset a Steel Series Artic 3. All software with both is fully up to date.

I'm also on PC, which is also up to date.

I agree with the above statement that discord chat has no impact on this, as when it happens I have to open discord then join.
