Repeated Weasel Error on Launch

I saw a similar post, but that post lacked detail and I want to provide more information on what all I have tried.

First, as the summary states, the client launches. I make it to the screen where you press the right mouse button to get into the servers. It loads for a while and I get a red bar at the bottom with "contacting Marathon servers", shortly before I receive a Weasel error popup and am kicked to start.

I am unsure if it is network configuration my end or Bungie server-side. The error message says to work on my network configuration so I began to research that. 

Here is what I have tried and had no luck with.

  • Turning UPnP On for my router.
  • Opened port 3097, 3074, and 4226. Used same value for external and internal port field. UDP and TCP.
  • Restarted my computer and router multiple times throughout this process. 
  • Verified Marathon has access through my firewall.
  • Verified the BattleEye service was running correctly and updated.

I am now taking the time to write this on the forum as I no longer have any avenues to pursue. It is frustrating spending 40$, and then not being able to play the game. I hope my troubleshooting helps someone figure something out.

  • Great write up bro but you will receive no useful reply. As you said you have seen us post about this constantly but since we area small minority they do not care. If you end up finding a fix please let us know

  • I will write something here if I find anything, but I am done trying to debug this issue for the night. Feeling a little defeated and definitely starting to feel this error is on Bungie's end, not mine.

  • I just want to update everyone and not run off after I found a fix and leave everyone hanging.

     

    Legitimately the only thing that worked for me was freshly installing windows. I backed up all my important files to an external drive and did a complete fresh install of windows. Have not seen Weasel error ONCE.

     

    I can confirm that two other people have done the same thing and are no longer getting weasel either. 

    Do what you want with this information but I can almost guarantee it will fix the weasel problem.

  • Thanks for the update. I don't have time or interest to reinstall my OS to make their game work. I do wonder though if there is some Mathon-Windows conflict on some Windows versions.
